About the Washington Law Component (WLC)
In addition to the UBE, applicants must take and pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) and the Washington Law Component (WLC), which is an online open book multiple choice test on Washington specific law. The purpose of the WLC is to educate new lawyers in Washington about areas of law that are unique to Washington law or that are substantially different from the law tested on the Uniform Bar Exam.
In order to be admitted to practice law in Washington, you must successfully pass the WLC. This online test is based on the WLC Research Materials found on the official site of the WA State Bar (click here for the materials). These materials include 15 outlines on various subjects of law.
You will be able to access the test from your online admissions account after you submit your application and pay the application fee. There are 60 multiple choice questions to be answered in no more than four hours. You will have access to the research materials while taking the test. You must answer 80% of the questions correctly to pass.
